Moringa Oleifera Benefits
The moringa plant is nutritionally dense. Along with it's ability to thrive in harsh climates, this makes it a popular crop to cultivate in areas where food is scarce. Moringa leaves contain high levels of Vitamin C, calcium, potassium, iron, beta carotene, and protein.
For this reason, Moringa oleifera leaves are often used as a primary food source or supplement for preventing malnutrition in children and nursing mothers. According to the Philipine Bureau of Plant Industry, "Moringa leaves have the calcium equivalent of 4 glasses of milk, the vitamin C content of 7 oranges, potassium of 3 bananas, 3 times the iron of spinach, 4 times the amount of vitamin A in carrot, and 2 times the protein in milk."
The nutritional properties of moringa oleifera are virtually unequaled in the plant kingdom. Just 25 grams of moringa leaf powder will satisfy the following nutritional requirements for an average child:
Vitamin C 22%
Vitamin A 272%
Again, the Philippine government found that ounce for ounce moringa oleifera leaves contain the calcium in four glasses of milk, the vitamin C contained in seven oranges, the potassium content of three bananas, three times the iron content of spinach leaves, four times the vitamin A in carrot, and twice the protein found in milk.
Considering the nutritional density of this amazing plant, there are few food sources in the plant or animal kingdom that even come close to the benefits of the moringa oleifera plant. No wonder it is often referred to as "the miracle tree".

Moringa oleifera leaves _ Antioxidant activity and total phenolic content of in two stages of maturity.
Sreelatha S1, Padma PR.
Antioxidants play an important role in inhibiting and scavenging free radicals, thus providing protection to human against infections and degenerative diseases. Current research is now directed towards natural antioxidants originated from plants due to safe therapeutics. Moringa oleifera is used in Indian traditional medicine for a wide range of various ailments. To understand the mechanism of pharmacological actions, antioxidant properties of the Moringa oleifera leaf extracts were tested in two stages of maturity using standard in vitro models. The successive aqueous extract of Moringa oleifera exhibited strong scavenging effect on 2, 2-diphenyl-2-picryl hydrazyl (DPPH) free radical, superoxide, nitric oxide radical and inhibition of lipid per oxidation. The free radical scavenging effect of Moringa oleifera leaf extract was comparable with that of the reference antioxidants. The data obtained in the present study suggests that the extracts of Moringa oleifera both mature and tender leaves have potent antioxidant activity against free radicals, prevent oxidative damage to major biomolecules and afford significant protection against oxidative damage.
